Equivalent Circuit for Wire Wound STM37 Core Material

08/16/2012 8:32 AM

in order to match the measured phase and impedance of an wire wound STM37 inductor, on LTSpice I need to make an inductor equivalent circuit diagram (with parasitic parallel capacitor and resistor).

could someone suggets a better equivalent circuit w.r.t to the setup, as the one shown below dose not fulfil the requirement.(this also includes the RG58 lines, ossiloscope resistor and capacitor to simulate the measured setup).

In case you hadn't tried this:-

google "modelling inductors in LTspice" .

Have you tried asking http://www.lodestonepacific.com for any help?

OOOH! Nice little paper! This will come in very handy.

This paper shows a different equivalent circuit for non-ideal inductor to the one I have, I shall try this .

Thank you, this paper is handy.

Shouldn't Rp be in series with L1? Also Cp should be connected between one leg of L1 and ground ?

I could be wrong.

I think you are right about Rp, but the cap is in parallel as it is the parasitic capacitance. Rp is to simulate the wire's "straight line" resistance and so is in series.

Correction, Rp is for the wire resistance AND the magnetic core losses.

well according to "Agilent Impedance Measurement Handbook" for coil with high core loss the Rp and Cp should be connected in parallel to the inductor and the circuit also has a series resistance of 1 ohm. Which all put together was considered the equivalent circuit for the non-ideal inductor.

will post the result after verifying the circuit in the paper mentioned by Randall.

If anyone has any other ideas, it would be helpful
