Something must mechanically drive the rotor mechanism to get electric power out of an alternator. If the rotor doesn't spin then no electric power will be at the stator output regardless of the rotor windings excitation. This may seem like an obvious point that does not have to be considered but the rotational speed of the rotor will also change the available electric power out of the stator windings.
