Windows XP, Command/Startup Bar

08/20/2012 11:05 AM

I recently started using a wireless mouse, the only way this is involved is that it is much faster and more sensitive, plus I am not used to it. I find that when waking up the monitor, I inadvertently click unseen buttons and shortcuts. I have been able to counter these until now.

The command bar and start-up tray that were along the bottom of the screen are now vertical on the left side of the screen.

How do I turn it back please?

I tried the "Help" system but it is useless except for things I don't need.

Right click a blank area of the task bar, if locked click Unlock (or uncheck Lock the Taskbar), left click a blank area of the task bar, hold, and drag the taskbar back to the bottom of the screen.

And then re-lock the taskbar so it doesn't happen again. :)

Done. Thank you.

I must have done that in reverse before because it was locked when I did your fix. Again, thanks.

I agree. That's about the only thing I remembered from my XP days.

By the way, if you have trouble with unintended highlights and other fun that happens when you are typing, you might download Touch Pad Blaocker. With the mouse, your touch pad is still hot.

This may not bother your machine, but it did mine, till AH clued me in.

I invariably turn off the pad-click function and use the buttons next to the pad. Too easy to unintentionally click, at least for me. Unless you have pad sensitivity adjustment and can crank it up.

If your mouse moves too quick for you, you can slow it down via

Control Panel - Mouse - Pointer Options - Select a pointer speed!

When you want to wake up a computer, another trick to avoid clicking on something you don't want to is to hit the space bar instead of clicking the mouse blindly. It doesn't always work, but it can avoid embarrassing situations like buying tractors you didn't mean to ... (honestly, it can happen)

Well put, sometimes you may need to use the space bar twice, a few seconds apart....

You should only have to move your mouse around to wake up your monitor. Clicking it's buttons isn't necessary.

Thank you all. Generally, I do just move the mouse but this one is more sensitive to clicking and faster too. I want to adjust to it, not have it slow down for me.

I have found that cheap mice have weak button switches. Get a Logitech mouse.

I have been using a wireless mouse for a few months, and I find that it "eats" batteries. Normal AAs were used up faster than I liked. I'm now trying the lithium batteries, NOT rechargeable. They do much better in my digital camera, so we'll see about the mouse.

If your pointer takes off across the screen on its own with no movement of the mouse, your batteries are probably shot. At least that's what mine does.

For waking up, I have to touch only the left mouse button, then wait for the monitor to warm up.

Unless I turn my GE mouse (not an endorsement) off when not using it, the batteries last 30 days.

My Logitec (not an endorsement) would go for three months. But, alas, it died. There is no justice.

I try to turn my mouse off here at home.

At work, I have a LT and don't bother.
