Too bad this information comes now. I coulda been a contender!

Not long ago I launched an uncooperative cell phone into low earth orbit. With great fortune the device made exactly one orbit, reentered intact, and hard landed to my extreme satisfaction on the roof of my neighbor's camper trailer. It did not survive the impact; I was okay with that!

Okay, okay... five seconds or so probably wasn't enough for an orbit around the Earth, it prolly went straight up into the sky and fell back again. Doesn't matter, it sure felt good to heave it.

Hyuk yuk yuk yuk!

I thought about that after I posted. My curiosity was trumped by my aggravation. The device was left to have the shiny parts picked up by any passing crows that became interested, and the remaining phone innards were given control of their own individual destinies.

I will continue to carry matches and a compass.

They appear to be in fiberglass tubs, not cast iron...
