05/17/2007 7:08 AM

Hi all

I was thinking about a small(Mini) reciever, and Controller, and i thought about

Any Idea's???

Thank you in advance.

I think the problem with using a wireless mouse to control an RC plane would be the distance involved. Wireless mouses are only good for several feet, at best.

Thank you for answering...

This takes me to another question that i have had for awhile.

Is it possible to change the range of an controller, and its reciever and so

how?

this could be a nice think to do specially for people like me who try to

buy cheap, and small (Cars, or boat), and try to make them to a rc plain...

any help will be Greatlly preciated...

Well, yes but.....

You could increase the size of the transmitter's antenna to get a bit of extra range, but I don't think that will be your biggest problem. A wireless mouse is great as it can also act as the direction controller, the problem comes about in the receiver located in the model boat, car or plane. The signals out of the receiver will be in the form of a coded data stream that will need to be decoded by some sort of microcontroller so that the direction and control information can be extracted to, for example, operate the servo to turn.

This would make a fun and interesting project (requiring both hardware and micro software programming skills), but it is definitely not as simple as it first appears. Search using google, you may find that someone has done this already and it may give you some further ideas.

Modding vehicles for RC will be quite expensive thou (servos, controllers, battery packs, etc). If you are interested in this project from a sales point of view you will not be able to do it economically.

I would stay away form using anything but a proper RC controller. There are regulation on how strong a wireless signal can be at different freq. Think about your high power mouse controller. It'll interfere with every wireless mouse in range and any other equipment using that freq which supposed to be short range. Next issue is proper controller have fail save to avoid shutdown when it get out of range. You don't want your plane to fall due to an interference.

You want to play, you need to pay.

Now you're talking - that's a project I could really enjoy.
