Coiling of Cables in Modularized Project.

08/29/2012 1:09 AM

hi,

I am working on a modularized project where we have to coil up additional lenghts of cables which will be installed later at site.

I am having trouble coming up with an idea to coil up these cables in way that they can be easily taken out for installation and does not harm already installes cables and cable trays.

Kindly suggest ways to do the same.

This is definitely a 3D problem and you have almost described at least 1 dimension in that you are dealing with a cable. A little more complete information might get a better answer.

Is the problem one where they resist being coiled up? Or is it a problem that causes damage when they are unwound?

Are you coiling this by hand? The old wrap around the elbow trick causes a spiral twist that could cause problems. I've seen a technique that prevents that by alternating which way the loop is formed when coiled up.

If you are shipping these to a site to be installed, have you considered laying them in a tray like a fire truck lays down hose for quick removal? If you can think of a search term you can probably find an answer using a search engine.

yes...... you are right there!!!! Problem is we are going to install them on site and I for love of god cannot get the idea how to arrange coil on module. what is arrangement for coil to be placed in module.??

Problem is less space in module!!!!!....Can you suggest some way to put reel in there with minimum cost and temporary arrangement. I am open to idea to bolting it to steel but not welding.

I don't know if you have ever seen how Christmas Tree lights are packaged in a box. They consist of a series of skewed loops held in place by notches in the package.

You could use pegs or bolts to make a vertical support on your horizontal tray. Then make large loops ending at each peg. Like this:

Just roll'em up, what's the big deal????

Clockwise in the northern hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the southern.

This is the only answer you will get from me, until you provide some useful information.
