Copy Movies From My PVR

08/30/2012 11:46 AM

Sometimes I want to copy movies I stored on my PVR to my PC. This way I can have a look at it when ever I feel like it. Any suggestions how I can go about doing this? Any info would be appreciated.

It is a HD PVR 2P MultiChoise decorder.

A mate of mine opened a broken one of these and saw that neither the LAN jack or the USB jack is connected to the board. Maybe I can connect it and make it possible on mine. If I only knew where to connect it to.....

A mate of mine opened a broken one of these and saw that neither the LAN jack or the USB jack is connected to the board.

I find that hard to believe for a commercial product of this type, normally they just blank the ports entirely if they want to sell a model with less features cheaper.

Maybe I can connect it and make it possible on mine. If I only knew where to connect it to.....

Well if it is only a set of wires left off then it may be possible (but potentially difficult unless the connections are marked and obvious).

The first thing to check is if the LAN and USB functionality is even enabled through the PVR's menu system, if you cannot find it then it is likely disabled (the PVR has been factory loaded with a different onboard software which you would also need to change, which you would be very unlikely to find online being propriatory software).

What does the manual say?

It really isn't worth trying to modify your existing PVR (unless you want to make a project out of it, but be prepaired to spend more money and time than a brand new PVR is worth).

What brand and model of PVR do you have, it may be a simple case of plugging in a USB memory stick or network cable?

I have one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116074

it works very well (supports HD) and even can handle 5.1 audio via the optical audio input.

Use USB & the "ArcSoft ShowBiz" software it comes with. There should be an option to save as disc image.
