HLR Breaker with BLG Mechanism Trip Delay

09/02/2012 12:18 PM

When testing the 138kv HLR breaker with BLG mechanism with the full rated control DC power supply 130VDC the trip time 32millisecond it is good the spec is 34millisec. +/- 4 milliseconds.

According to the IEEE guideline, the breaker tested with 70VDC the breaker didn't trip. Tested with 75VDC the trip took 70 milliseconds, out of the spec. range.

Now is it a coil problem or the mechanical lubrication problem? Any one has this experience before

thanks

90% is a coil problem.

Coil is not operating the plunger at 70 Volt DC.

Coil shoukl have a lower resistance to offer more current at 70 V DC.

Most likely, it is mechanical friction problem. Only good remedy is replacement.
