I purchased a half dozen of these modules hoping to knock up a solar powered food and water monitor for my couple of chooks.

The seller is no help, the modules listed appear to be the 5v version and not the 3.3v older version for eg..
I found an identical item on alibaba and queried the supplier who sent me the following email and a rough schematic of how to use it, simple enough, RX,TX,vcc and a control pin, I will post the full email instructions here as it may help someone else, I have not found the full command list like this elsewhere.
I have breadboarded the module and connected a USB-ttl serial adapter, no luck, I get no response to any AT commands .. I assume it means send 'AT' .. not some sort of serial AT character..
I can't see it sending a CC1101 packet for a single character, there must be some form of terminate packet and send command. All I have managed to detect is SPI data between atmel and cc1100 when i raise and lower the command pin .. sometimes..
Anybody had ANY luck or experience with these things or do i write it off as a bad purchase, pity as I think these will be useful to me..
