How To Do Quality Control For Coated Calcium Carbonate Powder

09/12/2012 2:45 AM

Hi, we are just started manufacturing this coated CaCO3. Currently we still don't know the best method to test the quality of the coated powder. At the moment, we just using a bottle filled with water and the powder. then we shake it. If the water and powder saperate well, means the coating is ok. If the solution goes dark, then the coating not good. Is there any other method or parameter to determine this coating is ok or not?

Currently, we set 1.2% coating. How to determine this value in lab?

For Coated CaCO3, we are using grind limestone with 700mesh, 1200mesh & 1500mesh size. Then we coat the powder using stearic acid in tubulizer. The purpose of this coating is to make the powder resistant to water. For now,we dont have any proper method to measure whether the coating are well coated or not.Any advice from you?

Further check & see if you can find what you want here:

Characteristics of the Treated Ground Calcium Carbonate Powder with

Heat Transfer through Calcium Carbonate-based Coating Structures ...

You should filter the mix & then analyse the water chemically to determine whether your final product is coated to an acceptable level.
