Wouldn't it depend upon the height above the road, the shape of the reflector, the shape of the housing, its proximity to the road, its angle relative to the road and whereabouts on the road the measurement were taken?

With the aid of a lux meter, measure and document the lux levels at different positions on road. That will be the most appropriate solution to your question. The standard lux level can be taken from the manufacturers brochure for 250 watt hpsv and 150watt hpsv lamps.

standard lux levels on roads are given in tender documents and publications by illumination engineers society. It has nothing to do with wattage of lamp but you can measure/calculate if height etc is known

The minimum and maximum lux levels at the road surface will depend on whether it is a major road or just requires enough light for pedestrians. You really have to find the local standard. A public library will help and some will have copies of the standards to view.

Different designers will produce many variations of the number, power and height of the lamps needed to get those light levels, but, of course, there will be standard configurations widely used in a given country.

I can recommend the DIALUX computer programme - which is available free on the internet, do a web search. It is made for building lighting, but it automatically uses lamp light distribution curves got from manufacturers and should be helpful.

Although different designers/consultants/architects have the option to select/ recommend various types of luminaires for each application what are the recommended luminaires(sodium/mercury/MH/induction/fluorescent/CFL/LED etc) for specific applications?.

Just refer manufacture catalogue there you can find illumination level for Light.Light output are measured by illumination level not by lux level for road we need of 25-50 lux needed,

that means 25-50 illumination per square metre.By fixing this we need to calculate number of light for specified area.

Ya but still is there any standard readings for example : for 150watt ,250Watt hpsv standard height of pole shud be x,standard spacing between the ople shud be y,lux reading on road surface shud be z & min lux reading at a [point on the road surface between the poles shud be x lux.
