Steam Turbine Nodification for CCPP

09/17/2012 6:27 AM

Dear all,

Does any one have an experiences for modifications on conventional steam power plant turbines for using in combined cycle power plant?

How does blocking of steam extractions affect steam turbine perfomance and characteristics?

thanx

Ehsan

here is the case:

during repowering project, steam turbine for steam power plant, may be used for combined cycle. as for combined cycle, there is no need for feed water heating, all steam extractions of steam turbine should be isolated, so flow of steam inside the steam turbine may be changed with respect to previous case .

I am asking whether this type of steam flow change, may affect steam turbine operation?

What does your project consultant say? Are you modifying the plant, based on your in-house knowledge base?

Yes it will. Refer to #3.

It will definitely affect the operation and if not correctly administered you will suffer severe damage to the turbine components.

"Partial Arc Transfer" is very much dependent on steam extraction operation.

Turbine efficiency, performance, and reliability will all be affected.

Do the research and get expert consulting support from a reputable turbine design service provider.

There should be an operating map of the turbine for various operating points. See if your proposed conditions are on the 'map'.

Dear happale,

Your question should have some more details. Pl.elaborate. Any modifications needs thorough knowledge about the subject.

What, where or who are "steam extractions"?

Piping and valves that are connected at specific locations in the HP and LP sections of a steam turbine to control efficiency, peformance, and operational dynamics.

"Partial Arc Transfer" wherin the steam flow is intentionally routed at/in a different direction and/or to a different portion of the turbine vanes & diaphrams that occurs at a critical point in turbine generator loading is definitely affected by steam extraction operation.

Improper operation of steam extractions can cause water induction into the turbine and significant if not catastrophic damage to the turbine.

Thanks for that.

It would be difficult to imagine then, how it couldn't or wouldn't affect steam turbine perfomance and characteristics.

Maybe this is really a different question.

Does OP have a specific proposal needing a sanity check?
