A1) Very little, other than it won't flicker at 50Hz.

A2) So that a clean-and-tight connection ensues. What else would one do - a tape-joint?

What will happen if you supply ac power via a half-wave rectifier to an incandescent or to a ballast operated lamp(fluorescent,mercury,sodium,MH,induction,LED,CFL etc)

One half cycle will be missing in the DC out put, thereby the out put voltage will be half of AC input voltage.

I meant how it will affect the lumen output of the lamp and will it appear to be flickering?.

Lumen output of the lamp will be reduced, not sure by how much. Yes, it will appear to be flickering.
