Substation earthing

09/21/2012 3:09 AM

Dear all.
iam having a doubt regarding fencing in substation area.
1. What is the minimum distance between the equipment and fencing?
2. What is the minimum distance between the fencing and the outside road in case fencing is just near by the main road.??

It will be as per your local code.

As mentioned by Joshi... check your codes for your region.

For fencing...

The minimum distance is going to depend upon the voltage level in use in the station.

Table 33 of the Canadian Electrical Code calls for a minimum of 3m of horizontal clearence for a station of up to 46kV and 3.7m for a station over 46kV and up to 69kV.

For anything over 69kV, take a look at CAN/CSA-C22.3 No. 1 for further direction.

As to the road issue... no idea.

But... none of this means anything relative to your local codes. Check them!

Type of installation of equipment used in the substation is also factor.
