Main Engine Mak M601 C Camshaft Cam Slipping Problem

10/02/2012 3:58 AM

Dear friends,

On one of my ships we are facing a problem of cam lobes of fuel pump cam shifting/slipping. These are shrink fit on the cam shaft and twice we had the problem of these shifting.

I would like to know if anyone has had a similar problem before and what is the main reason for this occuring in these type of engines.

the engine make is MAK 6 M 601 c type in line 4 stroke engine.

Thanks

Has anyone spec out the parts? Tolerances on this type fit is very close. Also the technical manual read it. The fit may have required a cylindrical sealant to hold.

the pump lobe might be getting hot enough to expand faster than the cam shaft. knurling will increase the diameter of cam shaft. make the knurling deep enough to give you the proper press fit again.

i think they make a knurling tool that can be used at the job site. if not, you will have to take the cam shaft to the shop. that's probably the best approach anyway. the tolerances are only a few thousands.
