Voltage Doubler

10/15/2012 1:40 AM

Dear all,

i have a DC brushless fan of 24V, 0.37A. i want to run this fan from my PC power supply of 500W. So i need a working circuit diagram of voltage doubler that can convert 12V of power supply to 24V. Circuit should be as simple as possible.

Sorry to be so blunt, but if you cannot design it yourself, what makes you think that you will be able to succesfully build it, maintain it and diagnose issues with it when someone gives you a design?

(Basically I'm saying that if you have the equipment and proficiencyto build it SAFELY, then you would probably already have the skills to design it.)

There are many DC:DC supplies on the market already.

For one of the simplest circuits try this:

The blue wire coming out of your power supply, is -12V. Yellow wires are +12V. Voltage between 'em IS ALREADY 24V so no doubler needed. Just check your PS current specs for -12V, it should be printed on a label. It probably is enough for your current needs. Just keep both your device (fan) wires away from ground voltage, since (-) will NOT be at zero potential. S.M.

Beat me to it. No need to modify something that doesn't need modifying.

SimpleMind check your computer power supply or manual, all the information you require is in there.

GA, but don't forget a current limiter resistor!

GA

The +12 V supply will easily supply enough current. Check the PSU spec for the -12V supply: it should be 1A or ½A but may be less.

Also check the connector pinout http://pinouts.ru/Power/atxpower_pinout.shtml

For example for the ATX supply shown above you need to short pin 14 to 0V to get the supply to turn on.

No need for a current limiting resistor, the fan will only take what it needs. Unless you want to control the speed.
