UPS Issue

10/21/2012 4:33 AM

I was working on 100KVA UPS( BPC Brand) and anytime it switches to inverter mode, the contactor opens immediately in a matter of second displaying overcurrent. i have taken my time to replace virtually all the boards but this kept repeating itself. what could be responsible for this and what is the way forward?

Measure the full load KVA. It may be more. Then, shed some non critical load, then try your UPS inverter. If you still find overcurrent operating, then you have to troubleshoot/calibrate/evaluate your overcurrent circuit.

Check you load..

A high current, leading power factor or high harmonics can cause the unit to trip.

At 100kVA I would expect that the UPS is a three phase unit, so check the load balance, this will also likely cause a trip.

What is the load?

Sapper
