Metal Rectifier

Please does any one have an idea on metal rectifier. In my company we use the as surge suppressors.I want to know more about it;thus, on how they work,testing if its good etc.

The testing regime needs to be embraced within the company's Procedure Manual. That way, if personnel change, the required practices continue, maintaining quality.

I"m not familiar with the term. Is it an instrument used by a proctologist during an examination?
