Silica Testing Meter

10/29/2012 3:11 AM

We purchased new Hanna silica photometer HI 96705 for silica testing but meter shows the high reading than actual. When we test from photometer (Hanna) 1.5 to 1.9 mg/L

Reading from Merx Silica Kit ( Visual testing) 0.64 to 1.0 mg/L WE also contact Hanna Inst Technical Dept they say Meter is Accurate & showing the correct reading.

Please describe why the reading is unmatched in both.

OK. Please state the temperatures at which both measurements are being taken.

This will be another exercise in futility.

As the old saying says: the man who has one clock knows what time it is. The one who has two clocks is never sure.

I suggest preparing a set of standard samples of known silica concentrations determined by analytical methods. Then read the samples with both instruments to see which one is right.

If a normalized calibration protocol exists, follow it. The instruments shall be calibrated periodically, especially if transactions based on silica contents are performed.
