Compressor Room Air Intake

11/20/2012 1:26 AM

Hi,

I am planning to install two 75KW IFD compressors in my plant compressor room. For that the vendor propsed some changes in desgin of compressor room. Vendor recommended installation of louvers in wall facing compressor air intake. Vendor also recommended installation of 35% efficiency mesh with G4 media filter sandwhiched in the mesh. What vendor did not provide was the thickness of the media filter. How much should that be, moreoever is 35% mesh efficiency a bit too tight at compressor room air intake?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Vendor is right. You can confirm the thickness of the media filter from him.

what you want to look at is the quality of the air you're drawing into the room....if the air is somewhat conditioned you might not need more than a cheap "pre-filter", if on the other hand the air you want to draw in is from outside your filtration needs might be considerably higher (and more costly)

Thank you for the post. I discussed the same with my vendor. The compressor has internal pre filters, in order to avoid choking those filters pre-maturely i opted for employing a G4 media filter on the compressor room air intake louvers. We plan on employing 2 layer G4 media filter 12mm thickness on the louvers. As pointed out the air is to be drawn from outside where there is significant dust content. What are your thoughts on this.

None of this is for the intake air. Haven't seen a compressor that doesn't have a good intake filter. The ventilation is for the after cooler and the oil cooler. Filtering is to keep the heat exchangers from getting clogged up too quickly between maintenance intervals. Which will need to be blown out regularly. And it's much easier to replace or clean a removable filter on the louvers then to blow out an impacted heat exchanger.
