Clarification on IP Rating

11/24/2012 6:35 AM

Dear Sir,

DB enclosures are manufacturing with IP 54 and IP 55. Could you please provide the requirements to get IP 54 and IP 55? I would like to know the physical difference in construction of enclosures for making IP54 and IP55.

IP - ingress protection. IP55 is slightly better protected against water being sprayed. It may be simply a better seal on the enclosure.

I think IP x4 is splash proof & IP x5 is jet proof. Constructionwise, IP 55 will have better gaskets (seals) than IP 54.

At post #3, I have put a link to IP Rating tool, where-in you input both the numbers & you get the complete specification. The specifications help you design/construct the IP Rated panels. Some ignorant member had marked it with an off topic score.
