How to Work Out Force Pull Required

Folks I have a lever that I can attach a digital scale to that gives me the amount of pull required to operate it in Kg or pounds. How do I then use this reading to select a solenoid to pull this lever? as the solenoids I have seem show either N or gf is there a simple way to convert the reading I get on the scales into the spec offered on the pull solenoid? thanks G

Well I do understand part of your confusion. Your force (weight) scale is technically mislabeled. Pounds is a unit of force but kilograms (Kg) is actually a unit of mass. The proper International System (SI) unit for force is the Newton (N).

There is a very simple way to convert these measurements. It is so simple though that not knowing how to do it means that you will probably not understand what it means.

gf(req'd) = kgf(given) x 1000. No conversion needed; just note prefix.

1 Kgf = 9.8 N approximately. You consider the same and go ahead in selection
