Google vs. Bing: Bing It On Challenge

11/26/2012 11:34 AM

Which search engine is your favorite? You may have seen commercials advertising the Bing It On challenge. It compares Google and Bing search results side-by-side.

I preferred Google four out of five times. The fifth time was a draw.

Take the quiz and share which one you prefer! http://www.bingiton.com/

I was honestly expecting Google to do better... I tried

Cavalier Won't Start
Free Energy
Appliance Parts (not for refrigerator, another problem)
Christmas Trees Fargo
LynDoor Industries

Bing retrieved (I felt) better results in three of the five.

Okay... I don't know just what search engines use for hit/return criteria. What are they looking for? How about Blackle?

3-2 Google wins on my end, I asked some pretty obscure questions.

Mine crashed and burned first round then told me to, "Hang on while we go and jiggle some wires."!

0 - 0

Retry.

Google 2, draw 3, Bing 0

The three draws were 0 matching results for both.

Interesting - I tried again using the suggested search terms in the tool. I chose the result with images every time. Bing won five of five.

Google also displays images in search results but none showed up in the comparison. Hmmm...

I suspect foul play. Someone get out the torches and pitch forks!

On this note: I didn't see google images either, and when performing a separate google search, the images appeared. I declare shenanigans!

Bing doesn't even load for me in Opera, my primary browser.

That's an un-retouched screen capture.

Bing works in Firefox, but response is very slow. Bingiton initially loaded in FF, but failed to run. Probably my script filtering and/or ad blocking. Oh well.

Haven't tried the Challenge yet, but my only experience with Bing was a link from a site advertising a performance my daughter was in earlier this year.

The Bing map showed the location of the theatre about 500 yards away from its actual position - and in the satellite view, there was no trace of the theatre building, which has been there since at least 2009!

Looks much better than the first version I tried, and the results are faster (than earlier incarnations). But, until Google mess up big time, I'll stay with what I'm used to. No real difference in results I've tried.

Google 4, Draw 1, Bing 0.

But that's ok, I've already switched my browsers over to 100 Search Engines.

Google is the most popular. But bing technology is the best.

"But bing technology is the best" - care to support that statement with something? Anything?

3/3 win to Google (I got bored). Instant hits on google for a CR4 username, a quote, and something highly technical to do with bathtubs.

Having expert local knowledge, Bing is revolting. They should have stuck to the fizzy drink.
