OEM Connectors

05/23/2007 9:22 AM

I may be asking the wrong question in the wrong forum,...

Is there any way I can find a company that manufactures OEM connectors for automotive? I'm trying to make an aftermarket product and need connectors to make it complete.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Most parts will have the name of manufacturer stamped on it, (or a label) with a part number.

Look up the part number on the web, and depending on the manufacturer, you may get lucky.

The other option is to contact the company directly. If you are lucky, they won't have an exclusive contract with the Auto Company, or restricted Intellectual Rights on the part.

When you say OEM do you mean to mate to those found in the wiring loom or connect directly to another product?

Hello again,

The connectors goes between the product that I developed and connects to the vehicle wiring harness connector. A perfect example is the radio harness that installers use to wire to the aftermarket radio and plugs directly into the vehicle harness without any cutting or splicing. Same concept only that it's not for the radio. I have the connector that I aquired from the Dodge dealer and it has no such markings, maker, etc on it and came in a kit of three connectors and pins.

With the connector kit being at $25 each, I need to cut costs. I want to find someone who makes them for Dodge and I DO know that it's possible since another company did make a similair product and had the connectors on their products. Been looking for days on the internet and I thought I was able to find something at least remotely related but it's been very difficult.

One Manufacturer that is well known in the automotive industry is (Robert) Bosch. They make everything from rotating electric- to fuel injection- and- the have catalogs that offer many electric plugs for their products- both the injected moulded plastic housings, and their related pins. When inquiring about window lift motors once, I found that Bosch subcontracted to a manufacturer based in the USA. I found them through Bosch automotive technical phone number. If you do not have a dealer ID- they will call you back. They are very helpful- 800 521 5462

Take a look at Allied Products' catalog (www.alliedelec.com). Allied is a major distributor representing several manufacturers of the connectors you are looking for.

Choose the brand you prefer and contact that manufacturer. Most will not sell directly except to large or house accounts so, chances are, you'll have to purchase from a distributor anyway.

Try "SPACECRAFT COMPONENTS" In Las Vegas Talk to Ed Weissman.

Say Hello from Ira in Chile. They have the expertise and if a good business they can and will do it.

You do not say where are you located, but my advice is to take a photo of what you're looking for and send an inquiry to Princess Auto - a Canadian retailer of all kinds of OEM parts, mainly automotive, or take a look in their online catalog. Their website is:

www.princessauto.com

Good luck!

Hello Sean-

The company I work for, Autosplice, supplies connectors to the automotive industry. We usually supply program specific. Do you have any additional info?

Thanks, George

Ok,

I imagine that pictures would do alot better. This shows the connector that came with the $25 kit from Dodge that I'm looking for. It makes to the other end that's wired in the vehicle. All I need is the supplier for this white plug and the pins.

Thanks for your continous help!
