Post-Bend Heat Treatment

12/08/2012 9:08 PM

Hello,

We fabricated 5D induction bend using 10" 11.1 mm wall thickness CSA Z245.1 GR. 448 Cat.III QT M45C pipe and after bending we conducted post-bend heat treatment (stress-relieving) as per requirements stated in CSA Z245.1 Clause 6.4.2.1

However hardness value was reversely increased from 250 Hv to 280 Hv.

Generally if mechanical strengh is proportional to hardness, that is, the greater mechanical strengh, the higher hardness value and vise versa but I do not figure it out why this phenomenon was happened.

I am not good at metallugical area so I would much appreciate if any of experienced people would answer to my question above.

Review your annealing profile and find any problems there.
