Specs for Bus Bars for Bus Ducts / Bus Ways

05/23/2007 11:24 AM

Bus Ducts are used for tall buildings, Industries etc as a substitute to cables for conducting currents of 400 A to over 7000 A.

Companies like GE, Square D, ABB, Continental etc make Bus Ducts.

We are planning to make Bus Bars, which is the main active component of a Bus Duct.

I am looking for specs of the bus bars required by these companies. Specifically, whether they use bus bars in soft / Annealed or Semi Hard condition.

Can anyone guide me about how to approach these large companies to get their purchase specs?

Thanks.

Aluminum and copper bus bars and shapes are commonly used in air and in bus ducts and the alloys and properties are defined in ASTM specifications such as B236 and B317 for aluminum and B187 for copper.

With regard to specific designs, I would suggest contacting your target customers' purchasing department or buyers directly. Companies often issue blanket requests for quotation for materials and, in some cases, post them on the internet soliciting freemarket proposals.

In the technical section of a large public or college / university library. Some have a complete set of ASTM Standards. ASTM B187 is in Volume 02.03 (Electrical Conductors).

Alternately, you can purchase the entire volume or the individual B187 from ASTM. From www.astm.org you can download a pdf file of B187 for a cost of $35 U.S.
