The microprocessor-controlled hydraulic cylinder in the Otto Bock C-Leg prosthetic gives amputees more natural walking. The cylinder piston mimics the knee joint's natural movement, with tension continuously adjusted to allow the leg to swing with variable resistance. Force sensors detect foot and ankle loading, with other position sensors determining the knee-joint angles.

I find this amazing on several levels, not least the paralympic sprinter who has been banned from competing against able bodied athletes on the grounds that his two prosthetic legs give him an unfair advantage! Look out for the records tumbling in the paralympics....
