Does the screen give you any options?

Never had this problem, myself.

Did the battery run out of power before the PC shut down?

At least it is not a blue screen.

You may have a hardware failure or a full hard drive.

You should be able to undo the last thing you did to this machine by restoring to the last good state.

Have you considered LINUX?

You should have a boot option before going into safe mode, and then as others have said do a system restore. Win 7 has been the best version of Windows for me to date. If it only boots into safe mode, than I suspect a hardware issue. More info would help here, when did it happen? What were you doing, installing, changing? Laptop, desktop, tablet? Factory installed or OEM? If factory installed, have you called them?
