KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) Solar Water Pumping

12/18/2012 2:18 AM

This is very simple home solar pumping project that any one can do.

Buy maximum size RO booster pump (cost Rs. 800 to 1200) check rating (usually 12V to 36V) and current (1A to 2.5A). Now multiply V X A X 1.5 = Solar Panel wattage; the pump voltage decides the panel nominal voltage. Connecting? solar panel "+" to pump "+" and so "-"Since we are pumping from ground tank to Over head tank and not using pressure, we will get more water than specification (2 to 4 Liters per minute). Any house wife can do it. Big boost to RO pump manufacturers and solar panel manufacturers. No controller, no fuses, no circuits, no any hidden technology, etc. Just google search you will find hundreds of suppliers; and what I used is even cheaper pump. Please stop using 1 to 2 HP water pumps you are using to fill your over-head tanks. Cheers!

Nothing about planned population reduction, then?

India population is 4 times US population, electrical energy consumption of entire US is 80 times of India consumption. One need to reduce energy consumption, not population.

One would be 320 times as effective doing it in the USA than in India, then?

I did a bit of reading on line and I can find a load of other small 12 volt pumps that are far cheaper than a RO type pumps that will pump water far faster and with less power plus produce far more than enough head pressure to lift water to any reasonable heights as well.

Then there is the other option of using simple hand operated pumps that do not require any electrical source at all.

I give the OP a C- grade for concept and a D grade for research.

True, I have posted this keeping my vast populated country in mind. Even today many families live using just 30 KWH per month and this too vanishing very fast. Hope you understand and support my action behind the real motive.

No solar regulator to regulate the voltage coming out of the solar panel and going into the DC water pump? There is such a thing as keeping it too simple you know.

Good idea. Please let me know where the pumps are available, preferably 12v and approx price.

I am In Mumbai.

I heard in northern India small farmers use solar DC pumps to pump water and store for use in farms. They need to do this because of uncertainty of power availability. But this is the most efficient use of solar power I can think of since there no storage battery involved and all available power is used instatly.

Any house wife...?!? What, pray tell, is this relevant to? Your idea smells like your sexist mentality...and that's not a good smell!
