Quality Calibration Tech

12/18/2012 3:22 PM

Always looking for the best torque wrenches. Anyone have preferences? Proto, snap-on, craftsman, CDI, any others. These are for industrial use. Ranges from 6in. lbs. to 600 ft. lbs. Thanks.

I prefer the beam type; I think it is less likely to get out of calibration than the click type. My personal one is Craftsman and quite old, but other brands should work fine too. With your range of torques, you may need several sizes. Some specs will require calibration fairly often.

hi

Norbar are a quality and certifed wrench, you will need different sizes and you will need a test station if used a lot by multiply people. With any click type wrench the tension should be backed off when not in use, if this is not convient then a beam type might be more convient but reloading the signal pin if using a lot is painstaking. also donot undo with a beam wrench. Norbar make the heads for many brands and in my experience maintain calibration very well. But always have a calibrating program frequency depends on importance and amount of use.

PROTO, Craftsman, & Snap On are all "top-of-the-line", excellent quality tools with an unconditional lifetime warranty that will not disappoint the user.

Any one of these as well as a few other international brands will perform well for many years if you follow the manufacturer tool use recomendations, do not physically abuse them, do not overload them trying to loosen bolts/nuts, adopt a calibration program, and keep them calibrated on a regular basis.

Be careful with any tool manufactured in China as there are many counterfeits floating around that are hard to identify until it's too late. (Check with calibration tool and check often to ensure the wrench stays within spec.)
