PVC tag is cheap but in a stuffy place and exposed to dust collection such as beneath MCC or Switchgear ss tag will be more suitable. But it is more expensive. Aluminum tag is still better than PVC and [I guess] is less expensive than ss.

It depends on environmental conditions where they will be used. Being in a coating facility where we pretreat metals, I can only use SS tags, PVC dry and crack do to heat, and aluminum tags corrode do to the strong acids we use.

For those of us with a slightly different background please give a few more details. This might be of interest to me (and others) but I can't tell for sure. Are these cable tags something like a traditional nylon "zip tie" but with a cable identification tab added to them? That seems to be what you are talking about but only referring to PVC and stainless doesn't seem to fit since I have only seen zip ties in nylon (white for indoor and black for sunlight exposure).

Are you in a hazardous or high reliability industry where nylon is not acceptable?

Possibly include a manufactures name and part number so we can understand what this post is about.

Thanks,
Bruce

What does your internal design manual say?

What does NEC say? What does BS 761 say?

Here's a guide:
