Erectors of cranes need to be aware of these possibilities.

Why, did the crane run into the helicopter?

Update: reportedly the lights on the crane were off and the helicopter flew into a low visibility area while being directed to land at a helicopter pad near Battersea Power Station, according to BBC Radio 2 at event +~3h.

Air port delays, police helicopter ground all because of the weather.

Sound like they should be investigating procedures for allowing flights in bad weather.

I have operated in minimums such as what was being reported before this accident. It is very hard to see anything ahead or to the side, even if your going very slowly. After one trip where I was at Min's for over an hour I swore I would never do that again and have not. Every pilot has their point where they stop operating. Some of us make it to the point of not pushing it, as mother nature pushes back way to hard.

So sad!

News reports say the helicopter was being diverted to a nearby heliport due to weather conditions. I passed the accident site on a train yesterday morning but was unaware of what had happened other than seeing a cordoned off area around Vauxhall station. The tops of tall buildings were lost in the fog at the time. Later on I was struck by the strange light in the half mist so took a picture up the river from Westminster Bridge. When I got home I realised I could see the damaged crane in the photo but was unaware of it at the time.
