Why don't you go and look them up individually on wikipedia then. You would have known by now if you had done just that instead of posting on here

Too many requests for one post. To accurately answer your question, one post will not nearly cover the concepts.

If you want to know all about these components then you have a lot to read up on. I studied instrumentation at uni and each module lasted 3 months!

You are really asking if we can teach you the fundamentals of electronics.

Good luck with the homework.

Hey! I'm a student!

Then again, I actually do research before I post.

I've been a student of electricity since 1968. No matter what I learn, I still get that copper taste in my mouth when I get zapped. Haven't quite figured out how to get around that one.

All integrated circuits are just blobs of plastic!

They only work because of the combined belief of all us engineers that they do work!

Sorry maybe I'm confusing electronics and religion!

Yeah, I saw the Blob years ago. A real classic!

Sometimes e&r do overlap though. or is it e/r or r/e? I sense it everytime I read Jorrie's posts!

Hi Guest,

As others have said you need to look these things up (Wiki) or acquire some good electronics book(s) or take some courses on electronics. Doesn't have to be at the EE level, just one or more introductory courses if you're just looking for a basic understanding.

On the lighter side:

1. All these things that you refer to interact with current. Not past, not future, only current.

2. A resister resists; resist'er, no matter what she does, just resist'er dude.

3. An inductor inducts; You wanna join the service? Go over there and see the induct'er.

4. A transister transists; Trans- prefix; across, through, over, beyond. As in "he tried to trans-sister" (he tried to get beyond my sister).

5. Diode, as in "die you ode!" Kill that short poetical composition. I don't like it.

Is there a better introduction than this?

John

Guest, It looks as if you are not willing to invest the least amount of time in your own quest, Why for heaven's sake do you want me (or the others guys) to waste time on you?. Study, Get someone to teach you.

I wish there was a way to filter theses stupid entries.

People don't like to spoonfeed. We do like to elaborate, though. Come back with an idea and expand on it. Or be a LOT more specific with your question, one that can't be answered with google and a few taps on the keyboard.
