05/25/2007 2:52 AM

I have bought a Yamaha DT motorcycle few days ago. I would like to get some materials about engine trouble shooting.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the DT is a single cylinder 2 stroke engine with a kick start. I don't know if Haynes do a manual on the DT cos I can't be bothered to look it up but the will do a manual on two stroke engines.

Another little piece of advice is that if the engine is in running order then keep it running regularly. As a teenager I had a little Suzuki TS 50 and while it ran sweet the worst thing to do was to leave it alone for a few days.

Also be very wary of an engine which has been bored out. A couple of my friends had bored out engines on thier DTs and they all died about 4k after.

OMG. Why buy a DT?

The only material I would use is some semtex.

Sorry. Not very helpful. Had a friend with one. Sold it 12 days after he brought it. No guts.

I had a 76 DT460, and it was very powerful for its time. I would start with the air filter; if it isn't that, i would look at the fuel mixture and ignition.
