I like Fluke. Just bought a Fluke 374.

This is just an opinion.

Please quantify <...best...>. What are the weighting factors to be applied to the individual item scores?

I would search for the one that has the most voluminous, yet very SIMPLE, user instructions. And a well published telephone number and web site so that they can answer all your questions on how to use it, once you have purchased it and discovered that you don't know how. The fact that you want an AC/DC meter is worrisome.

Fluke is good.

I'd go here:Search GlobalSpec and search for "Clamp-on DVM".

There's an easy way to do this via the CR4 "good answer" mechanism. Reply to the original posting several times, with each candidate for the <...best...> award in a single reply posting. Each CR4 reader is entitled to make one GA in the thread. Once the thread goes quiet, as it will do over time, the one with the most GA votes is the winner!

If I could only remember the Harbor Freight brand name, we would have our answer. Something like Chicago Electric?

If he wishes to clamp test current in DC circuits, that unit won't do it.

A mob called Deal Extreme have a good range of cheapish meters that will measure DC current. Not as good as Fluke, but nowhere near the price either.

I actually have one of those $9.99 Cen-Tech wonders.

I wanted to measure the amp draw on my new pool pump motor. It worked fine for that. Don't know what I did with it after that, never had cause to use it again.

I use a current transducer style. Plugs into any multimeter.

Best is subjective, what do you want to measure and how accurately?

Is it for personal hobby use or are you planning on working in a substation as a contractor?

Re: clamp meter

Greetings.

I have a clamp meter made by Sears that does ac amp and dc amp plus temp and freq plus the ac dc and continuity.

I paid $70.00 a couple of years ago. It is a great meter.

It is 3:13 AM here in Olympia and if you want the model number I will have to get it later.

Have a Great Day,

Oly

Tis the one that "BEST" suits YOUR needs!!. I like Fluke® due to the ruggedness of the instruments, the accuracy is also quite high along with quality and price.

Hioki Clamp On Leak HiTester 3107

I have used it for years...and since it was used to baseline our systems over 25 years ago it provides a reliable historical curve.

It gets cal'd every six months.

Re: clamp meter

And that's the problem with this question, answers are all going to be subjective. Only four different makes have been listed, we all stand behind the one we like, each has served each one of us well, which one is better? Can't answer that. More details need to be listed on the requirements needed for this meter. Is price important, accuracy, durability, amount of functions?

Did I mention I like my $300.00 Fluke? I bought it for PdM requirements, that was best for me, If it wasn't for PdM, I could have gone with a less expensive model. Please define what you need meter for.

Think this is bad? Wait till someone asks for a recommendation for an adhesive.

Of course, the first problem is that OP doesn't know what the substrates are, and it goes downhill from there.

The proprietor of this thread has one that measures current in boundary fences. Might be worth a look?
