How to make manufacture metal fillers

05/26/2007 9:04 AM

Dear friends,

In a tsunami affected area we want to start a few more community projects to enhance the income of village people. One project earmarked is manufacture of metal fillers for mainly the automotive industry. Any guidance on compositions, manufacturing processes etc will be highly appreciated.

Either you may come open in the forum or email me on sisiraa@gmail.com

coconut shell powder is considered an excellent filler in metal fillers. Sri Lanka exports it in large quantities. I also understand talc also as a filler used very widely. We are interested to know the resin part of the technology.

Blending, mixing etc may be done in a small factory/community center(with necessary enviro. protection)

Similar projects done over here are geo textiles, bristle fibre, coconut charcoal, barbeque briquettes etc

I suspect that the application is sound dampening.

You can use everything from Plaster of Paris to Epoxy Resin to make things that use fillers. You can find Plaster and Portland Cement makers locally. The plastic resins are made by chemical companies. They range from the old tried and true Cellulose Nitrate that is only still used for ping pong balls to the highest quality and priced stuff from Switzerland. Chemical companies sell resins. I am sure they can direct you to a supplier in your area that can be of some help.

I expect you can make a fiber board with Cocoanut fibers I have seen it done with almost everything. A mix of wood like material, a glue and some filler in a heated press makes something that act more or less like wood. I have seen plastic milk jugs and stuff from a chipper used to make a substitute for lumber so I guess anything is possible.I have seen wheat straw made into fiber board that was as good as some of the stuff made from wood.

Making something at price and quality that you can market for a profit somewhere is what the game is about.

Don't sell charcoal short it can be done on any scale. These wood gas stoves that make charcoal as by product is an interesting concept.

Here is how to make a on man charcoal furnace http://www.arti-india.org/content/view/42/40/

Good luck
