IS for Oil Type Transformer Location

02/11/2013 1:13 AM

Dear All,

Is there any IS/IEC standard which Clearly states that Oil Type transformers be located in Outdoor area only. Oil Type Trafos are generally used for outdoor use only, but if you could refer me any IS/IEC in this regard, it will be of great help to me.

Thank You.

Does IS by chance have an index, so that this can be easily looked up?

It's in the IEC transformer installation standard somewhere (have a look on the IEC standards website for the correct standard and buy it for further clarification).

I think (from memory) you can put them inside (even in commercial or residential buildings) but they require strict bunding and fire prevention techniques (etc) to reduce the risk of flaming oil pouring through the ceiling onto those below. All of which are possible, but do add to the expense.

In some locations they use silicone oil for indoor transformers. If silicone is not accepted nowadays there should be an alternative.
