Parking Sensors for a Holden 2010 Colorado

02/11/2013 7:11 AM

Ok people does any one know much about parking sensors ?

What I want to do it know how they give the signal back to the control unit.

is it s variable voltage, a mA signal, frequency ??

I have been told that these sensors can be mounted upside down or sideways and this this will cause false readings (annoying beeps...)

My sensors don't have any flat orientation marks on them but they do have a arrow thingy on the side but it might be just a molding mark.

Can you get narrow beam sensors and fit them to an existing system as my sensors are mounted in near the tail lights on my truck and I think they would need to have a the least a 90-110deg beam to get out past the lights and edge of my tray.

Any help would be appreciated

Automobile PDCs are predominantly ultrasonic, so orientation about the rotational axis should make no difference.

As far as output I have no idea... I presume whatever input the controller is calibrated for and is looking for.

These are a fairly common fail item, and need to be replaced periodically. These are a handy item, but are not a failsafe replacement for a Mark II eyeball and a swivel mount at the base of your skull.

I've always been underimpressed with the digital, LED ultrasonic garage parking system. My favorite has always been the cork on a string. As soon as it bumps the windshield, I'm perfectly parked in the garage.

I have used both ultrasonic parking sensors wired and wireless. The wireless one was I think a bit less reliable as sometimes it wouldn't give a signal till you were right on top of the car or obstacle. Now I have a parking camera. Its wireless and the screen clips over your reversing mirror. Its great and I can get safely within inches of the car behind when reversing. I put the camera under the rear of the car a volvo s60 to keep it away from vandals who may tamper with it. Cost about £60 from ebay. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what type of sensor your device has. The micro impulse radar is a very reliable device that uses a transmitter/ receiver combined into one sensor. Micro radar beam would be directionally oriented to send out signal in the direction of detection. The same type used in the stud sensor and the pocket radar.

I am going to try a cone over the sensor to narrow the beam
