Carburetor Problem of Mitsubishi Lancer

02/13/2013 1:04 AM

Hello Friends,

I have a Mitsubishi Lancer when you ignite it, it comes on then purring of the engine varies with it running very fast then slows then runs fast continuously until when you engage the gear and start driving on. It consumes a lot of fuel. Other times when you ignite it, it comes on and goes off ie no idling. What can i do to the carburetor to fix it? This started when the carburetor was cleaned.

Take it to a mechanic.

What did you "clean" the carburetor/fuel system with? I have found that depending upon the age of the engine vs. the when the cleaner was produced can have a devastating effect on the plastic/soft parts/seals/seats. Why? The older the cleaner the more likely it is more aggressive chemically and was not meant to be compatible with materials that weren't even invented when the cleaner was sold.

The other thing to look at is the fuel filter, sometimes the pour-in cleaner loosens up crud from the fuel delivery system, including that which is already trapped by the filter, which then finds its way into the small passages and then gums up the mechanisms.

Probably time to remove/rebuild your carb/injectors.

How old is the carb? Are you doing the work yourself? Two barrel? Four barrel? One barrel? Three? Do you have experience with this type of work? Was the carb disassembled when cleaned? There are a number of things that may be causing the problems. My guess is the carb is worn out. Cars come with injectors these days so your car must be a bit old, carburetors were phased out years ago.

Check for black smoke coming from the exhaust, leaks around the throttle shaft or loose shaft, internal parts that may be stuck, vacuum leaks, plugged vacuum lines, dirt/debris inside the passages, missing parts, bent parts, idle adjustment, torn or broken gaskets, choke adjustment/wiring, loose screws, stripped screws, loose mount bolts, dirty or loose air cleaner, and you better check and see if anything fell in the manifold when the carb was off.

There are most likely a dozen more things, read up.
