Land Rover Brakes

02/13/2013 1:31 AM

Hi guys, I am converting the the brake system on my series 2A to the dual brake system of a series 3. To that end I have purchased a series 3 master cylinder but there is now some doubt as to whether it is for a long wheelbase or a short wheelbase series 3. Does anyone know how I can tell the difference....? Thanks guys, Norm.

I would not think that LR would specify a different part for that. The difference is in the bodywork and length of brake pipes.

I think they are different as the wheel cylinders are smaller on the short wheel base L.R. I would put the part number you have on Google and see what comes up.

Hi,

After trawling through fleabay It seems that up to June 1980 there were two master cylinders, after this date there was only one type used. The numbers are swb. 90569126 and lwb 90569128. It seems that the dual master cylinder is the same for both swb and lwb. The part number is 90577520. As I have said I have only gleaned this information from Fleabay sellers. You could change all the brakes for the lwb ones. This will give you twin leading shoes on the front and the diameter and width of the shoes/drums are bigger.

Paul.
