Compressor Efficiency

Initially the inlet temperature and outlet temperatures of air for a compressor is 10 degree Celsius and 100 degree Celsius. when the inlet temperature of air increases to 50 degree Celsius what is the effect on outlet temperature and how was efficiency whether increased or decreased?

Use Equation P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2. OR Refer Thermo Dynamics Book for Adiabatic Compression.

That equation is correct, but it doesn't tell you what P2, V2 and T2 are for a given process. There are an infinite number of values of P2, V2 and T2 that satisfy it.

Air compression by an ordinary machine is polytropic, not pure adiabatic. It obeys P*Vk = constant where k = 1.3 (vs ~ 1.42 for adiabatic). Doing a bit of math,

T2 = T1*(P2/P1)n where n = (k-1)/k (T absolute temp of course).

From that the OP can work out the new outlet temp. Assuming P1 and P2 are same for both cases (he doesn't say otherwise), (P1/P2)n is constant, making it easier - outlet temp is a constant x inlet temp.
