TV out terminal for LapTop

05/28/2007 12:39 AM

Greetings all

I am trying to connect/utilising the TV screen while playing the DVD on Laptop. The Laptop has TV out port, where I am connecting the cable port, and output as usual to TV (3 terminals jacks). But I am not able to get the output on TV.

Is the Laptop port is plug and play type or it will ask for hardware installtion as TV is external hardware to laptop. OR am I doing sometinhg wrong? Please help.

Need a bit more info -- make and model of your laptop to start with -- also, are you comfortable with altering CMOS settings -- many lalptops come with the TV output disabled even though you have the RCA jack to connect to a TV -- Several manufacturers also use embedded function keys to switch between laptop, TV or both - Lemme know

Most likely you are looking at a composite output (single RCA jack, possibly yellow)that is labeled TV. The Television input takes three inputs for this type of connection: Composite video, Stereo left and stereo right - each with an RCA jack, or an RCA for the video and 3.5mm stereo jack for the audio.

Another possibility is that you are looking at the S-Video jack which is an 8-pin mini-din with two signals (four pins) for the video (sync and rgb). You will need to have a TV with S-Video in to handle this type of signal. In either of these cases the audio is seperate and will come from the 3.5mm jack.

The first thing to test is the TV to see that you have it set on the right input. Newer sets have a "front" channel and 3 RCA (red-right audio, white-left audio, yellow-composite video) connections on the front of the set. Test with another device like a known-good VCR or camcorder before messing around with the PC BIOS settings.
