DC Over Load Protection

How we supply Overload relay for DC power circuit. Normal CT is not applicable for DC. Shunt is one option. Is there any other option?

Several come to mind:

  • Electromagnetic circuit breakers
  • Thermal circuit breakers
  • Fuses
  • Etc.

(1) There are DC CTs which are specialised. You can search the web, especially for patents.

(2) Magnetic releases are more common for DC protection.
