Any information available about what is going on these days regarding the Cold Fusion discovery as a new free energy source ?

Wow, what a resource!

I would like to add the following stunning photo. Field of poppies, lightning strike, a steam engine in the distance. A once-in-a-lifetime photograph.

I have it on good authority, now, that the Easter Bunny will be late.

The Wikipedia article on the Fleischmann-Pons report of cold fusion is very thorough.

In summary, these two then well respected electro-chemists produced a flawed experiment that produced misleading results that lead them to believe cold fusion had happened. Nobody, not even these two with the original apparatus, have since been able to reproduce the original result. An enormous amount of scientific study, effort and funding was diverted into trying to reproduce the claimed result.

Many hot fusion researchers feel that the media circus during and following this claimed cold fusion result undeservedly soiled and eclipsed their research. The fact that several Tokamak magnetic confinement reactors do actually achieve controlled fusion is unknown to most of the public. These machines do not and may not ever produce more power than they consume, but they do fuse atomic nuclei.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion that cold fusion will be attained one day and that what we saw was just the "opening shots." Could it be that we are just not ready for it yet? I am not invoking the power of some supernatural being blocking our path, but rather that "nature" (Gaia?) will not reveal the secret until we are ready to deal with it's massive implications. Ultra-cheap electricity (if that is the result) would shatter the nuclear, coal, gas, solar, hydroelectric and oil industries - and many more besides.

P.S. No mention in the wikipedia link that Martin Fleischman died in August 2012.

You are correct that the Cold Fusion article at Wikipedia does not mention that Martin Fleischmann died in August 2012. The hyperlink there to Martin's Wikipedia article does reflect him passing away.

Cold fusion of the metallic hydrogen trapped in a palladium crystal lattice (aka palladium hydride) has long been speculated, repeatedly thought to have been detected but never confirmed under close scrutiny. Will it ever actually happen? Obviously I do not know. If I could successfully predict that kind of a world changing discovery, the world would already be a vastly different place.

My gut opinion is that cold fusion without the presence of a particle with a very short half life (muon) probably cannot happen. If a stable element could promote cold fusion then I would expect other stable elements could also do this. So I would expect the universe to have a vastly different proportion of hydrogen to helium than we observe.

Just the same old groups trying to at least break even with energy in / energy out. Still nothing even remotely close to a lab-based alternative energy source let alone a viable product since I started following cold fusion back in the early 1990's.

Plenty of over unity scams and hopeless backyard inventors claiming breakthroughs thou.

Cold fusion is currently one step above a blatantly obvious, bald-faced over unity scam and it is going to take extraordinary advances and evidence to prove otherwise.

Still, we wait and hope..........
