  1. The first possibility is overload.
  2. The next is water ingress.
  3. A third would be mechanical damage.
  4. Overheating from outside.
  5. Etc., etc.

8.- Loose conections causing overheating and metal erosion.

Main infos needed :

  • ref of the breaker
  • type of network, installation
  • type of failure : "faulty" is a bit vague.

Then I would advise to call the Schneider service center ...if Caterpillar does not answer.

You did not state what type of breaker is in question.

If it is a molded-case type breaker:

Most molded-case circuit breakers are not designed to operate/trip/open more than once under fault conditions.

If this breaker has operated more than once in/under fault condition(s) it must be removed from the application and tested using a certified tester and following the breaker tester IOM instructions.

Not knowing if or how many times the breaker has been "tripped" in/under a fault condition nor the operating environment nor whether it has been properly maintained it is not reasonable nor logical to determine or assume the "Root-Cause" of failure.

All of the posts are excellent information and should be considered.
