Spiral Tubes in Oil/Fuel Filtration Industry

03/27/2013 1:30 AM

HI All, I have a spiral tube with louvers that allow fuel to pass to the filtration media. The idea is to close the louvers to prevent a dry start on the engine. The cost of a new machine is not an option. All i need is to reverse engineer the tube without changing the dimensions. Can you assist.

Not without seeing it and measuring it, no.

Sorry got no idea what you are talking about. Any pictures? More detail? What fuel, what size?

So you want to divert the fuel from the filter to start the engine with dirty fuel? Why would it dry start when going through the filter?

If you want to reverse engineer some spiral tube, get some same size tube and bend it into a spiral with the same dimensions.

Since we are not yet wizards we cannot see what you see but if you make a few pictures, display them and give a better explanation we could be able to understand and give a hint.

Hi Guys i was still striggling how to upload pictures but i will have then soon. basically the design is for an oil filter which is mounted on the engine side, when starting up the car from dead stop the engine must not run dry withoit oil. The idea is to half perforate the center tube to ensure there is oil left in the filter.

If the idea is to ensure there is oil in the filter, why not mount the filter with the inlet and outlet on the top, thus allowing gravity to be your friend?

I know you think you are telling us all about it, but there isn't much to work with here.

No engine starts <...without oil...>, because it collects in the sump when the engine stops and in the very least it is splashed around the crankcase by the rotating masses when the engine turns over. There is a very good reason for engines to have a dipstick!

In the initial post, you talked of filtering FUEL, and in this one, filtering oil . . . which makes a lot more sense.

MANY (most, I think) cars in the last 20 years or so have come with filters having an internal valve to prevent starting without oil in the galleys and pump. The technical term is "anti-drainback valve", sometimes abbreviated ADBV. Google "anti-drainback valve", quotation marks and all, and you'll get about 160,000 hits. Why re-invent the wheel, so to speak?
