Need Help With a Schematic

04/04/2013 7:18 AM

Hi
I have a circuit diagram which i believe is for a zero crossing detection. if it is of zero cross detection ,can any one tell whether it is VZC or CZC ? Also it would be helpful if someone can tell the waveform at the collector pin of transistor with respect to ac waveform.

It is an extremely poor design of a VZC, I don't think it will even work at all, it looks like it will turn ON once (and late by the way), and stay ON forever.

You obviusly borrowed it from somewhere, if it was your design, you would know whether it was a VZC or a CZC, you have to start doing some serious research.

Start here.

Yes, that will certainly help, GA.

It doesn't introduce more delay with an extra diode from the common cathode of D1 and D2, and uses a resistor (R1) instead of a capacitor, this pulls the signal down to zero each semi-cycle, while a capacitor would convert the pulsating DC into a filtered DC, thus keeping Q1 ON all the time.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I could understand the first pair of wave forms you provided. ie the waveform at the collector of Q1,but didn't get the 2nd pair of wave forms. ie the square wave form. Has it got any connection with the circuit you provided?

Following SE second link to this page has this diagram. With info and the second waveform.
