Feed Distributor Chute for Mineral Sizer

04/14/2013 12:59 AM

Hello, We are experiencing a problem with our Iron Ore Sizer as we experience a rapid wear of some sizing teeths. Upon investigation, it was found that feed is concentrated on first three segments (45% length of teeth row) so most wear was experienced on this area and rest of the teeths are as good as new. We started looking into the better wear resistant materials (plus surface hardening options) and another effort is being made to consider different options to install some sort of diverter or distributor.

Did anybody experience any such thing you can share? Any idea how we can improve the material distribution across the length of Sizer inlet?

Thanks

Sam,

If 45% of your chute is responsible for 100% of tooth wear, then the problem should be obvious.

You have 55% more capacity than you are using, and your transport system is not level.

Some sort of wedge- or trapezoid-shaped diverter plate might be possible to even out the flow of material into your sizer. Without pictures or the like, it is hard to be more specific.

Coal handling facilities I saw in the past had similar challenges for the first stage where the trucks dumped their loads.

From memory (I was only 13 or 14 at the time) it seemed that they installed a "safety grate" with around 500mm square opening. When a load was dumped onto the grate it took a few seconds to move through to the lower stages, reducing the impact and velocity of the pieces and also allowing some spreading across the grid.

Trucks could dump quickly and get away, but he material was processed and gone before the next truck arrived.

This grid was probably made of 25mm thick plate and was maybe 300mm deep with some "I" beams as cross support. Dump loads were in the order of 50T in those days.
