Dew Point Measurement in Compressed Air

freinds,

how online sensors measure the DEW POINT of Compressed air & quantitative Moisture measurement [in PPM]..?

we have installed one in our comp air header line [250 NB] which is showing DPs like 32 - 35 deg c which seems weird/wrong.our comp house has 4 nos of 3 stg centrifugal compressors in parallel with ref type dryers of similar qty.

Why does the dewpoint seem weird? You don't mention where it is in relation to the compressors or the dryers or the pressure it is operating at.

Looked up the weather in Ranchi and it seems you average around 25 Deg C and 20% Relative Humidity during the day? Much higher humidity in the morning and at night. So say your inlet air is around 5 Deg C Dewpoint.

Compress that air to 7 bar, and the moisture content goes up 7 times. You can compress the air, but the water doesn't compress so the volume of water stays the same, but space it is contained in has reduced 7 times. Is that making sense?

Here is a good dewpoint calculator (and they make damn good moisture meters too)

Put your inlet Dewpoint (5 Deg C?) in the "Dewpoint at Atmospheric Pressure" box

Put your line pressure in the line pressure box (7 Barg)

and you get 39 Deg C Dewpoint, so your numbers aren't that weird, unless your sensor is after your dryers and aftercoolers!

I am just guessing at your conditions, so if you enter the actual values you might get closer to your indicated values.
