Chiller Plant

04/22/2013 5:18 AM

Would like to do some power savings in my chiller plant. Have already increased the chiller outlet temperature from 10 degree to 11 degree..Anything more??

We have a air cooled chillers in the system with VAV's and VFDS in the AHU.

Has all the insulation already been upgraded to the economic maximum?

Why 11degC instead of 10? Why not 12?

What is it that provoked the change, and why was an increase of 1degC decided upon and not 2? There must have been some thought given to it! Please explain.

There comes a time when we must all recognize our limitations. I can't help you fix the chillers, or cut costs.

Maybe you should call in an expert and quit wasting time with free, blind long-distance help.

Is this an air cooled or water cooled condenser?

Air cooled you have few things you can do if you can't increase the surface area.

Water cooled you can change the head pressure setting, but at the cost of more water flow.

How many ton system is this?

If air cooled, have you cleaned the condenser? If direct sunlight is on it during part of the day, build a shade surface to prevent this. If the fan is belt driven, increase the fan speed. Outside of this a larger condenser that lowers the head pressure.

Your post does not have enough details. Explain the system, what is being chilled, size of system, condenser type, method of evaporator expansion.

you could install a reservoir that holds water that was chilled during off peak hours. depending on your KWh charge$ during peak times could save you a lot of coin. the capitol investment is substantial but the payback (Roi) is there
